Bio

I major in animation but I (like many of my peers) have come from a background of printmaking and illustration from previous teachers. I would say that my work has been the culmination of years of traditional art making and translating it digitally. I find my interests in history and making stories of characters existing in a morally ambiguous world, my favorite pieces to reference are social realism and works by Cormac McCarthy. I interpret my work digitally and traditionally, but I find that there is nothing taken from work created digitally, and that the work I create is reinterpretation of the old in a new format.

Goals/Objective For OPFTA

If anything OPFTA could accomplish for myself is to establish an entity online which allows me to post work in a clean and professional space. The abundance of blogs and Tumblr URLs that I've created (usually from requirement) fade into the ether of the internet, and I haven't done much with them after finishing a course. If OPFTA could do anything for myself is to give me a space on the open digital terrains and plant a flag on the internet.

I wish to allow anyone to view my work. I've discovered many great artists who allow their work to be viewed by anyone. But if I were to sieve out the online traffic to just a few groups, it would be studio heads/employees, fellow animators/artists, potential clients looking for a freelance 2D animator. I wish to find employment with fair wages for fair work. I wish to reach heads of studios, if not in a linear fashion, at least finding someone connected to a head of a department in some studio (preferably in the USA).

I wish to express my understanding of the media and the knowledge of the craft, as well as those interested in my personal work as an artist. I find that my work has some niche elements in it. I have the ability to adapt to styles (studio work) as well as produce my personal work, which includes elements of historical critique/satire, simplified line/color structure, and themes that I'm personally into (hopefully finding people with similar interests, but who knows).

If I could organize my work, I'd divide my work in categories. I would start with animation (being the priority) going to illustration, painting, sculpture and even printmaking. I've had experience in producing a varied amount of work going back prior to my Freshmen year, and still produce work of different media outside my major (if I find the time or get inspired). I would organize my influences, and to find connections with people who find similar interests and understanding of my work. If it could have a structure to feel easy and free to roam around for potential clients and/or visitors that would be a major benefit.
